VMware - Expanding a *.vmdk file

Expanding a virtual disk that is too small, can be done from a console:

In the VMware program directory locate

vmware-vdiskmanager.exe

To expand (e.g. to 32GB) use this command line:

vmware-vdiskmanager.exe -x 32GB "path to server.vmdk"
